Story: Storms & Bella

Published by Paul under Writing

It was a warm spring night when the thunder storm rode in and when I heard the rain start to fall, I turned off all the lights and sat at the screen door with my dog Bella. As we took in the smells, sounds and flashes of the weather, I explained to her all about what was happening and she seemed to be as fascinated as I was.

I decided to take off my socks and venture outside to sit on the steps in my pajamas. Bella took a quick run out into the rain, but after realizing the rain was wet, she was driven back to the steps and to my lap.

I sat there wishing for the storm to rage so fierce it would scare me, thunder so loud I’d need to cover my ears and lightning so bright like a camera flash seen even behind closed eyes. The rain stuttered for a moment and then surged back with growing strength and frequency. My walkway divided itself in pools of water seemingly wanting to merge into one large flowing stream.

The puddles looked so inviting that I had no choice but to walk in them so I sprang up into them as Bella followed. She seemed unsure if she really wanted to go, but wasn’t about to let me go alone. She ran off ahead as I stopped to put my arms out and as I did she stopped questioning me with a look over her shoulder.

It was with each joint in the spectrum of feelings that I felt each tiny but spirited spark branch out into a million different directions. Despite being under the weather, literally, a dark thought could not enter my mind. The prospect of living in this moment could have given me wings. Each moment pushed moments upwards, spreading out and leading to new thoughts. They all seemed to lead to one wish of wishes.
